How to Write Kitchen Tea Invitations

"Kitchen tea" is the standard Australian term. You don't need to explain it, but if you have international guests unfamiliar with the tradition, a brief note like "a pre-wedding gift party to help set up the couple's home" is a thoughtful addition.

Unlike general party etiquette, including registry details on a kitchen tea invitation is fully expected and appreciated. Guests are specifically coming to give household gifts, so point them in the right direction.

The recipe theme is a beloved Australian kitchen tea tradition. If you choose it, send a recipe card with the invitation so guests have time to write something meaningful rather than scrambling on the day.

Modern kitchen teas often include male partners and friends, especially if the couple is buying or setting up their first home together. If your event is open to all genders, make that clear on the invitation.

Kitchen teas typically happen four to eight weeks before the wedding. Any closer and guests are already in wedding mode. Any earlier and the gift might get lost before the couple has a home to put things in.
